Canada's national Three Minute Thesis® competition is now live. This virtual competition is on the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies (CAGS) website until June 2. Visit the CAGS national competition website to view videos of the 11 finalists chosen from successful regional events at Dalhousie and McMaster Universities as well as the University of Calgary. You can also vote for the People’s Choice Award — a terrific way to express your support for these grads.
Voting for a People’s Choice winner is open to the public. Voting occurs on the same webpage as viewing the videos. CAGS would like to encourage visitors to both vote and share this link widely with colleagues and community so that they can see the calibre of this next generation of scholars and cast their vote of support.
The winners will be announced June 12.
3MT® is an international competition for graduate students in which participants present their research and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less to a panel of non-specialist judges. It is not an exercise in trivialising or ‘dumbing-down’ research, but challenges students to consolidate their ideas and research discoveries so they can be presented concisely and engagingly. Competitors are judged not only on how well they communicate their complex research — they also have to convince the judges that they want to know more about the subject.
